Keyboards for Kids

Music is an integral part of our society, but not always affordable for inner-city families. The Keyboards for Kids program provides children with 40 minute, small group piano lessons each week from highly qualified volunteer instructors as well as an option for individual 30 minute lessons. The program is offered at no cost, and gives the students the opportunity to take a keyboard home to practice for the year.

Young Chefs

The Young Chefs program provides an opportunity for children and youth to learn about nutrition, meal planning, budgeting and preparing meals and snacks. They also learn about kitchen safety, table setting, table manners and clean-up. The University of Alberta is a key partner in this program and provides two volunteers from their nutrition program to work with the children.

After School program

This program is filled with activities that enhance and develop social skills, cooperation, team play, creativity, imagination, and physical fitness. Learning is facilitated through activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, sports, games, manners and clean-up.

Koinonia is our after school program at St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School. Koinonia is derived from the Greek word, κοινωνία, which means communion, joint participation, or community.

The Inner City Children’s Program has a strong sense of community and is in partnership with St. Alphonsus Catholic School since August 2014 to bring this after school program to students from grades 1-6. Koinonia runs after school Monday to Friday, and has “Light Leaders” who are students grade 7-9 that help and mentor the younger children. The Koinonia Program hosts monthly community events that are open to families of the children enrolled with us, these community events include a meal as well as showcase the children’s work from that month.

Morning Gym Program

This program is an integral start to the day, assisting the students to achieve higher concentration and fitness levels, while also learning sportsmanship and team play. Mother Teresa School provides the students with a hot breakfast and we develop and implement the recreational programming.

Spring in the City

A spring break camp held every year to provide students the opportunity to visit various historic and cultural sites around the city of Edmonton.

Summer in the City

This program offers children at our schools the opportunity to develop leadership skills in three two-week summer day-camps. They have the opportunity to participate in recreational programming and exciting field trips, with a focus on team-building, leadership enhancement and most importantly providing these children with an opportunity to enjoy places they may have never experienced before!
