To foster positive interpersonal relationships, self-confidence, resilience, and skills acquisition in inner city, at-risk, low income children in elementary and junior high settings through holistic, year-round programming and community collaboration.
The Inner City Children’s Program will be built upon community connections, commitment, and support. We will provide responsive programming that strengthens children and families within Edmonton.
Who We Are – Enriching Inner City Children Since 1995
Established in 1995, ICCP is a registered non-profit charity that remains committed to providing Edmonton’s inner city children with a chance to participate in programs specifically created for their benefit by giving those opportunities they would otherwise not have access to. A few examples of the programs we deliver are : After School Programming, Koinonia Program, Keyboards for Kids, Young Chefs and of course our spring and summer camps!
Recognizing the need for supervised, skill-building programming in the inner-city community, we have partnered with local schools and other organizations to provide a variety of programs and services. By focusing on asset-building and skill enhancing activities we are helping to build strength and resiliency in our children that will aid them in becoming strong, independent adults.
Each year, we provide over 50,000 hours of supervised programming to over 440 inner city children and youth. The outcomes children have demonstrated from participating in our programs include: positive interaction with peers and adults, the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships, an aptitude for working through negative emotion by using creative expression and an increase in self-awareness, self-esteem and leadership ability.
Our programs allow inner-city children to play in a safe and supportive environment that promotes healthy alternatives and diversity of experience. They promote structure and clear limits, positive interaction with peers and adults, physical activity, creative expression, achievement, cooperation, health awareness, conflict resolution, and a variety of other skills.
We are the only inner city agency providing these services for children in their own school setting. Our partner schools are currently Norwood Elementary School, Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School, St. Gerard Catholic Elementary School and St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School.
We believe that the school provides the safest opportunities for inner-city children to build confidence and self-esteem, while participating in recreational, educational, cultural and leadership-building activities.
